Read Books

I love books. Words on paper bound up in a brightly coloured cover. My mother once told me that in one of the books she was reading, the author had said that everyone has at least one good book in them. Apologies because I do not know who it was that said that. But it stuck with me. As a doctor, I have the privilege of hearing many peoples’ stories - the real stories, not the ones carefully crafted for a like-inciting social media post. I also love to hear what my patients are reading. After all, it is not just food that nourishes us but also ideas, knowledge, and a sense of connection. As with food, you can find “junk food” in this book realm as well, so I encourage you to pay attention to how different books make you feel.

Books have been best friends of mine for a very long time. Do you love talking about how much your best friends mean to you? I do. When I find a book I love it makes me want to buy copies for everyone so they can share in my delight.

Here is a sampling (so as not to completely overwhelm anyone) of favourites from my bookshelf.
